How Can LED Lighting Be Good for the Environment?

Welcome to the blog! In this post we want to talk about the impressive nature of LED lighting. There is so much innovation in LED technology today and Big Shine Energy is really excited about making sure you, the reader, are in the know. We’re also communicating directly with business owners and educating them on how to become environmentally conscious by converting to reduced energy consumption lighting sources like LED.

The U.S. Department of Energy reported that in 2012, about 49 million LEDs were installed in the United States. This saved about $675 million in annual energy costs for the country. If the entire country switched to LED lights over the next twenty years, then the U.S. could save $250 billion in energy costs while reducing electricity consumption for lighting by almost 50 percent and reducing carbon emissions by 1,800 metric tons. These are amazing results!

Big Shine Energy’s goal is to bring information like this to the foreground, educating business owners on the incredible benefits of LED lighting. So what kind of results can Big Shine Energy LED lighting produce?

To answer that question, here’s a link to a real life account. It’s our Case Study post about a recent lighting project we completed for President Container Group (PCG). PCG is one of the largest manufacturers of corrugated boxes in North America. It produces in excess of 2.2 billion square feet of corrugated products each year. Switching to LED allowed PCG to reduce their carbon emissions by 2,391,753 pounds yearly.

If results like these can occur with only one company’s commitment to making energy conscious decisions, what about the rest of the world? Sports facilities, arenas, grocery stores, parking lots, factories, medical facilities, do you see where we’re going with this? The world of LED lighting technology is expansive and brimming with innovation. There’s almost no limit to its applications.

At Big Shine Energy, we want to make the process of converting to LED as easy and seamless as possible. This blog is another tool to help you, the reader, become more educated and excited about the benefits of LED. Stay tuned for our next post.
