Making an Impact
As a non-profit organization, NC Volleyball Academy aims to build its athletes with the skills needed in volleyball while keeping the love for the game alive in their hearts. With a mission to make an impact through education, NC Volleyball is known as the top academy in the Durham area.
In 2011, when they acquired their own facility, it was a home to 119 metal halides throughout the 40,000 sq. ft. academy. The efficiency of metal halides depreciates as soon as they are put to use, so the new property required an upgrade to lasting and efficient LED lighting. The benefits offered both savings and a better quality of lighting.
A Change for the Better
When Big Shine Energy approached NC Volleyball Academy, a complete photometric layout of their facility was created to assess the best solution to maximize savings while increasing foot-candles for practices and games. The proposed solution allowed them to not only retrofit their existing high bays, but even reduce the total number of fixtures with Big Shine LED’s 200W Luna that offers an efficacy of 150 lm/W. With this solution, they increased their level of light while getting rid of the unnecessary energy consumption.
Bright Results
With such a great opportunity for savings, Duke Energy provided $15,946 in rebates, paying for nearly half of their fixtures. As they look forward to the success of their new facility, they can also look forward to saving 131,910 kWh annually, which translates to $15,191 every year. Now they can be proud of serving not only their community, but the environment as well, by participating in the Approaching Zero carbon emissions movement.
